About Us
BTB stands for “Born to Be” – the genesis of the academy was the belief that every child deserves an opportunity to be somebody, to be included and can thrive given the opportunity. In short, we were all born to be somebody!
The academy was initially developed as a community outreach program by Kondeh Mansaray, as a way to get youth active in the community, with most of the youth being those identified as ‘at-risk’, vulnerable, new-comers to Canada and/or from many visible monitories. We maintain this mission today.
In 2018, Mr. Mansaray was awarded the RBC RISE Award for this initiative and his efforts to provide youth an opportunity in Edmonton to develop their soccer skills, and physical literacy, in a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.
The academy is a fully incorporated entity in the Province of Alberta, providing a range of services related to sports, participation and inclusion for newcomers and youth in the Edmonton area. In 2018, additional shareholders Pius Ishiekwene and Talal Al-Waid were added to the ownership group.
